Integrated Graphene Meet the Team: No.4 - Pablo Lozano Sanchez, Prinicipal Scientist

Next in our meet the team series, we would like to introduce Pablo Lozano Sanchez, who is our Principal Scientist with a wealth of experience in biotechnology R&D and product development.

Q: Where are you from and what is your professional background?

PLS: I am a native Spaniard currently residing in Catalonia. I have a professional background in electrochemical biosensors and POC diagnostics which has featured a heavy involvement in project management and product management of life science diagnostics.

One of my proudest achievements to date was in my last company, of which I was originally the co-founder, when I was awarded the first and only electrochemical biosensor-based method with ISO 16140 certification for pathogen detection in complex biological matrices (food, faeces or animal feed).

This resulted in the development of an integral electrochemical biosensor-based pathogen and allergen detection method which were granted validation as an official reporting method.

 

Q: What does a day on the job look like for you?

PLS: A typical day can look anything like monitoring of R&D progress from our team of great scientists to a broader objective of ensuring the goals of the company's R&D outcomes are achieved. My main focus presently is concerning the development of Gii-Sens and Gii-Sens+ product lines, ensuring the maximum performance and quality standards.

 

Q: How do you see graphene changing the world?

PLS: Graphene is changing a paradigm currently existing in materials science: high added value, high purity materials are costly and show little scalability. We are proving capable of producing such high added value material with high purity ( > 98%), whilst still ensuring a great scalability as a characteristic of a very inexpensive graphene generation process.

This manufacturing process offers a tremendous flexibility in terms of substrates, shapes, architectures as well as the ability to be incorporated onto other platforms. The latter also means that Graphene will replace plenty of existing active materials whose performance was sacrificed in exchange for affordability and integration. The impact of Graphene in a number of areas like energy, sensing, etc… will be groundbreaking.

 

Q: What are you most excited about for 2021?

PLS: The scope for development is vast so keen to see the establishment of R&D agreements with large companies to exploit the assay development service offered by Integrated Graphene.  My main focus is the launch and subesquent settling of Gii-Sens and Gii-Sens+ products. It's an exciting time for the business.
